If i don’t want to volunteer any income and therefore pay tax, wouldn’t it still be honourable to pay the Medicare levy surcharge in Australia and therefore be able to receive hospital cover in the case of a medical emergency?

As an Australian, I support this.
would like to know as well. in canada, we already pay for “extended health insurance” through employment benefits packages, and we do not support universal sick care which our taxes fund, and if this was abolished then the pharmaceutical industry wouldn’t be so powerful, people would start relying on food and exercise to heal themselves instead of drugs, as everyone would have to pay out of pocket or use extended health care to pay for prescriptions instead of it being covered by universal sick care.
Interesting one. I would like to hear the discourse about this one also in respect to the Netherlands (civil law). We have nationale healthcare aswell
