Do a signature and an autograph have to look different?

When I autograph my book for someone, must i avoid it looking like my signature?
I'm guessing there has to be a distinct difference between the two, as in how it looks / how I write it? Else how would you distinguish one from the other in cases where the use of a signed name could be confused as either signature or autograph.
