Hello, I’m a third generation farmer in California. The farm land that we’re currently working belonged to my dad and uncle. My dad passed away about a month ago and my mom and uncle are now partners with me as manager. The farm business is incorporated and currently, one of the biggest problems we have is the state claiming ownership of the groundwater and fining us for using our own well past an arbitrary allotment that they set. Because the land/business is not under my name, but instead under a Family Limited Partnership, I’m not sure if anything can be done at this time without restructuring how our family farm is set up but would be grateful for any assistance or advice that is offered. Thank you.
