I have a membership with a health profession; we supposedly have the benefit “self-regulation” but actually, we are regulated by a tyrannical lawyer. She persecutes us for anything she can find and fines us without going through the proper, outlined procedures, she can suspend our licenses (and she does). Nobody seems to be able to stop her. I’m currently in the process of resolving another complaint and she proposes fines and penalties of $4500, plus additional courses (~$2000). Our profession is typically not even lucrative, I have struggled financially for many years. For me her suggested penalties are exorbitant. I did agree to follow the rules outlined by the College and the Health Professions Act, and she certainly can poke holes in my charting. But mostly, she’s making up new rules standards as she goes, weaving together arguments that suggest wrong-doing; which provides her the opportunity to drag us into a Hearing (weighted on the side of those aligned with government, so-called “public members” who then might get positions in Gov’t) if we don’t sign her Memorandums of Understanding, which say we did something wrong or failed to uphold standards. Hearings could be worse – We could be forced to pay for Hearing costs as penalties – can be $10,000 day with additional fines; so potentially worse. Can I use this process/knowledge to stand up to her? Is there a way to consult with one of you on this matter? I’ve been looking for contact info, but can’t seem to find any. Long and very specific, I know. But I would be happy to consult privately as well.
