Is it legal for the HMRC to claim income tax retrospectively when they change the rules? The “disguised remuneration “ cases against people working as independent contractors in the UK.

HMRC changed the “law” in 2010 & 2012 and then sent some nasty letters claiming back taxes over 20 years.These remuneration packages were advertised as legal in the UK. Many people have lost their homes and even committed suicide over the inability to pay back 10-20 years worth of recalculated taxes.
