About challenging school taxes: I have sent three notices to my local school tax collector in upstate New York. I have heard Jon and Greg talk about how they choose to pay taxes but if the taxes were much higher that would be a different story. Here in my County in New York property taxes and school taxes are absolutely extornionary. We pay more than 3x what our neighbors in Massachusetts pay. And I have every reason to want to pull my financial support from the local public school. The tax collector did respond but was unable to provide me with a law that says I have to pay the taxes they levy. I went to the woman’s office to have a face to face with her and she wouldn’t see me. I was very polite. It looks like I will have to invite her to court. Do you know of anyone who has used this process to succesfully get off of their local property or school tax rolls? If I go to court I want to be successful, so any support you can offer would be much appreciated.
