Are there alternative words to compensation?

Using the word compensation instead of cost, fee etc has the advantage that tax is not applicable to compensation but the popular use of the word compensation indicates loss and suffering which I have considerations about.

    That I do not know. Compensation is Tax exempt, so it is a clever term to use. It is nor that clear with gifts
